While the success of Netflix’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series can be largely credited for the game’s rise in popularity, many people have also started to wonder, as we did above, “Is Cyberpunk 2077 finally fixed?”
In case you forgot, the publication of Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020 was a complete failure. The game was a technological nightmare that was also devoid of several important features. Overall, a lot of folks who enthusiastically played CD Projekt Red’s (production-wise) sequel to The Witcher 3 found it to be disrespectful in a lot of ways and just never looked back once they left the game.
Others made the choice to hold off until the game’s numerous technical issues were finally fixed in order to have a fairly fair opportunity to evaluate the remaining experience.

You’ll still have to put up with a number of technical flaws and disadvantages if you choose to play Cyberpunk 2077 on those systems. On such consoles, there will probably never be a completely fluid version of the game.
There is no doubting, however, that the Cyberpunk 2077 last-gen upgrades changed the game’s playability from “unplayable” to “nonoptimal.” In many people’s minds, those versions of the game now function well enough and are free of their most significant technical issues. Although it’s clear that this isn’t a glowing endorsement, anyone wishing to play the game on those devices will discover that this is the best experience they will ever have. I mean that literally once again.
The PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game are as “fixed” as they’re ever going to be now that CD Projekt Red has issued the final PS4/Xbox One update they presently intend to release for the title. If they decide to surprise everyone with extra last-gen patches, that is.
In the end, I’m still unable to suggest those versions of the game to anyone who doesn’t have an intense desire to play Cyberpunk 2077 and no other method to do so. Additionally, people who can get a cheap copy of the game on those systems for $20 or less may be encouraged to overlook some of those drawbacks and play the game as much as they can on those platforms. Did Cyberpunk 2077’s Next-Gen Update Improve the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Versions Of the Game?
Unbelievably, CD Projekt Red did indeed release the next-generation update for Cyberpunk 2077 earlier this year. Although the upgrade ought to have been made available much sooner than it actually was, I must admit that it significantly enhanced the game’s next-generation editions.
To cut to the chase, Performance Mode on PS5 or Xbox Series X will result in a much enhanced framerate and a fairly steady experience when playing Cyberpunk 2077. However, the game continues to experience a few small problems and graphic issues like texture pop-in (as well as the occasional bit of slowdown). On next-generation consoles, those significant technical concerns, however, are largely resolved. Running in Performance Mode makes Cyberpunk 2077 feel very much like the game its creators presumably meant for you to play right away.

However, Ray Tracing doesn’t really help in several significant parts of Cyberpunk 2077. You probably won’t see many of the gains the function is intended to provide if you’re strolling about during the day or navigating an industrial space, for example. What you’ll observe are the framerate decreases that go along with that feature.
Although the framerate in Ray Tracing mode is intended to be closer to 30 FPS than the 60 FPS Performance Mode aims for, it can occasionally go below that threshold. Because of this, the majority of players will probably favour Performance Mode, while Ray Tracing is undoubtedly interesting to try out occasionally.
Additionally, the overall performance of the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game is comparable. If you twist my arm just right, I’d say the Xbox Series X is generally more stable while the PS5 offers a marginally greater performance maximum. However, unless you really appreciate the DualSense control options in the PS5 models, neither console really outperforms the other (such as adaptive trigger feedback). I should also point out that the loading times in all versions have been much improved, making the game considerably better than it previously was.
Don’t anticipate much from the Xbox Series S, to be honest. The PS5/Xbox Series X versions of the game are definitely inferior to that version, while the PS4/Xbox One versions are unquestionably superior. That’s about what you’d anticipate from that hardware, I suppose, but you get the impression that CD Projekt Red could have done more with that platform if they had had a more technically sound base from which to build. It’s still a great middle-of-the-road choice, though.
Additionally, I should mention that CD Projekt Red is still working to make the PS5/Xbox Series X versions of the game better. Theoretically, they can only get better from here, but I expect that the majority of future enhancements will concentrate on bug repairs and optimizations rather than any kind of significant updates that make the game appear to have been designed from the beginning for next-generation hardware.
Is the PC Version of Cyberpunk 2077 Still the Best Version of the Game?
For those who wanted to experience playing Cyberpunk 2077 as if it were a game that was always meant to be released, the PC version was not only the best, but also the only way to play the game at launch. The PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 is still the greatest way to play the game, even though the console versions are now considerably better than they once were.
The “floor and ceiling” performances make the difference. At debut, Cyberpunk 2077’s PC version was by far the greatest, therefore it also needed the fewest substantial performance improvements (relatively speaking). To put it another way, CD Projekt Red was able to concentrate on optimizing the PC version of the game earlier than they were able to do the same for the console versions.
As a result, Cyberpunk 2077 plays well on a range of PCs (apart from the aforementioned brief periods of lingering technical difficulties). While modders have been modifying and growing Cyberpunk 2077 since it was released, CD Projekt Red has added more material to the game (more on that in a moment). The game’s mod community is still, at the very least, one of the finest places to go if you want to address a few particular problems that have persisted. In the best case scenario, you might be able to use such mods to solve some of your unique game-related issues in a way that the official updates just can’t.
Playing Cyberpunk 2077 on a PS5 or Xbox Series X instead of a PC is generally a good idea if those consoles have much more power than your computer does. But it’s still the simplest to suggest the PC version of the game to a larger user base.

However, for some who believed Cyberpunk 2077’s numerous problems rendered it unsalvageable or that the game simply wasn’t the kind of open-world RPG experience they were seeking for… Well, I kind of doubt the issues you had with the game will be resolved in the updated version. Cyberpunk 2077 might not ever be that kind of game, for that matter.
I would push a little harder to recommend that we all create place in our hearts to give Cyberpunk 2077 a second opportunity and recognize how far it has come if it were a surprise release from a small studio. I’ll say instead that Cyberpunk 2077 is now simpler to play than it is to forgive given the circumstances.
