Democratizing critical and helpful location details to help communities
Google has promised to work with regional authorities to democratize information in order to address issues like public cleanliness and Covid-19. For the purpose of enhancing traffic flow and reducing congestion, it now disclosed its collaborations with regional traffic authorities.
Google Maps will soon display speed restrictions information given by the traffic authorities, beginning with Bengaluru, to support local traffic authorities’ efforts to encourage safe driving.
As part of its attempts to create models that better manage traffic signal timings, Google recently announced its collaboration with Bengaluru traffic police. This will ultimately spread throughout the city and aid the local traffic authority in controlling traffic at crucial crossroads. Along with the help of the regional traffic authorities, Google will further extend this to Kolkata and Hyderabad.
“We are happy to join with Google to leverage technology to assist decrease traffic congestion and enhance road safety for the citizens of Bengaluru,” said Dr. Ravikanthe Gowda, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Bengaluru. We are the first Indian city to have begun a Google trial to improve Bengaluru’s traffic light arrangement in order to shorten commuters’ signal wait times.
According to statistics given by Google, the new strategy reduced wait times for drivers passing through the trial intersection during the day by an average of 20%. We are thrilled by the favorable effects this may have in lowering traffic clogs, aggressive drivers, fuel usage, and greenhouse gas emissions. This is evidence of the revolutionary effects that a partnership between the government and digital giants like Google can have on society.
In addition, Google has collaborated with traffic authorities and aggregators in eight Indian cities, including Delhi, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Gurgaon, Bangalore, and Agra, to provide information on road closures and incidents to help people plan their travels and avoid congested areas.
