ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 HERO Motherboards Burning Up

There have been at least six complaints in the last several days, and numerous users who received RMA devices have experienced the same problem, even on newer boards.

So, What Exactly Is The Problem?

The problem appears to have occurred a few days after that the system was turned on. The user claims to have heard a clanking noise, but there was no obvious damage to the board itself.

The motherboard, unfortunately, failed to boot the next day, reporting a 53 error on the QCODE ‘DEBUG’ while the QLED lit up orange. Burn damage was also evident on the chips directly beneath the QLED, according to the user.

In terms of what the 53 QCODE means, it usually refers to unsuitable memory or issues with installed memory modules. This was reported by one user on the ASUS ROG Forums, but so many other users began experiencing identical issues with their ROG Maximus Z690 HERO motherboard after that.

What’s more alarming is that there are numerous people in this subreddit thread who are having the same problems, and several of them have their ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 HERO motherboards burn up and exhibit the orange glow of death on the QLED in the same fashion.

Some users claim that these two ICs, known as ‘4C10B MOSFETs,’ have nothing to do with DDR5 DIMM slots, while others on claim that some DDR5 manufacturers are flashing incorrect SPD information in XMP profiles for specific kits, resulting in unwantedly high voltages damaging the main ICs responsible for handling DDR5 DIMMs, resulting in the 53 QCODE being displayed on the board.

Although ASUS does indeed have a QVL for their ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 HERO board listed on their website for people to check before purchasing or installing a particular specific memory kit, an incompatible memory kit should not cause any motherboards to catch fire.

Some reports claim that upgrading to the 8011 BIOS for the motherboard enhances memory performance and reduces QCODE 53 and orange light of death difficulties, however, it’s unclear whether this is a long-term fix or a workaround.

People May Ask

Is Z690 Compatible With DDR4?

DDR4 is supported by the Z690, with natural clock frequencies of up to 3200MHz. If one really want the fastest performance, DDR5 RAM with native clock speeds of up to 4800MHz is the way to go. One can also use XMP to get speeds just above core clock speeds, which will enhance RAM speeds even more.

What Is ROG Maximus?

How Long Do Asus Motherboards Last?

It can range from 7 to 10 years or even longer, and it can also be as short as 3-5 years. ASUS is well-known for producing high-quality motherboards. It would most likely live longer than 4-5 years (because can’t really say how long a motherboard will last).

Why Do Motherboards Fail?

Motherboards can fail for a variety of reasons, however, there are a few prevalent causes. Excessive electrical shocks, physical damage, and excessive heat are all common reasons for motherboard failure. Some of these risks are unavoidable, and the possibility of them varies based on the particular computer model.

What Happens If Your Motherboard Is Fried?

The level of a fried motherboard’s damage determines whether or not it can be repaired. Occasionally, only the microprocessor is harmed. The microprocessor is usually housed in a socket, allowing for rapid replacement if necessary. However, the board is frequently too damaged to be repaired.
