Google tests end-to-end encryption for group chats in messaging app

Google tests end-to-end encryption for group chats in messaging app. RCS (Rich Communication Services) group chats that are end-to-end encrypted are being tested by Google, a major American technology company. In the next weeks, this will be accessible to a select group of individuals in the open beta program.

Google claims that this feature would make one-on-one texts received through Google Messages more safe and private because end-to-end encryption will ensure that only the sender and recipient can see them. In the blog post, Google said that RCS not only makes messaging safer but also more enjoyable.

The search engine claims that RCS will enable users to share and receive high-quality media, view real-time typing signs and read receipts, name group conversations, and more in a secure manner compared to SMS texting, which lacks the security feature that smartphones are capable of.

To take use of features like typing indicators, delivery tracking, and read receipts, Google encourages its manufacturers and carriers to adopt RCS. Additionally, the business has started a push to persuade Apple to use this standard for its own messaging platform.

With the exception of Apple, all of the major mobile carriers and manufacturers have embraced RCS as the industry standard today. When people with iPhones message people with Android phones, Apple refuses to implement RCS and instead relies on SMS, which means that their texting is stuck in the 1990s, according to Neena Budhiraja, group product manager for the Messages app.

To avoid having to continually waiting to remove the “acegreen-versus-blue bubble,” Google blog post concluded, “Hopefully, Apple can #GetTheMessage.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google and Alphabet, has received the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour, in the trade and industry category.

Pichai stated as he accepted the honour from the Indian envoy to the US, “India is a part of me and I carry it with me everywhere I go.

Group messages can they be encrypted end-to-end?

End-to-end encryption was added for the first time to the RCS experience in Google Messages as the feature became live globally in late 2020. Since the more secure texting was initially only available for one-on-one talks, group chats were not encrypted.
