You can finally see a live feed of your Google Nest cameras on your TV

You can finally see a live feed of your Google Nest cameras on your TV. Use a Chromecast as well as Google TV to stream live video from the new Nest Cams & Nest Doorbell.

Finally, Google is adding an outdated function to its new Nest cameras. Starting this week, you can use a Chromecast with Google TV to broadcast the video feed from all of your Nest cameras and video doorbells to your TV. On Wednesday morning, Google published a blog entry on the Google Nest Discussion board announcing the functionality.

“What?” You query. Couldn’t you have done this already? Yes and no, I suppose. The largest screen in your house may display the video feed from previous Nest cameras, including the Google Nest Doorbell (wired), the now-discontinued Nest Cams, as well as the camera within the Nest Hub Max.

However, none of Google’s more recent cameras could broadcast to Chromecast devices, as I pointed out in my evaluation of the new Nest Cam (indoor, wired). (All Nest cameras are capable of streaming to Google and Amazon Echo smart displays.)

All Nest Cams as well as Nest Doorbells, including our newest models announced in 2021—the Nest Cam (outdoor or indoor, battery), Nest Cam (interior, wired), Nest Cam with floodlight, as well as Nest Doorbell (battery)—will be supported, according to the blog post.

We don’t yet know if it will function on previous Chromecast and Google TV devices because Google only lists the more recent Chromecast with Google TV as compatible.

According to Google, the new integration will start to be implemented this week. Nothing has to be enabled in order to turn it on. Just make sure your cameras and Chromecast are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

You may ask the Google TV voice control to “display me the front door camera” by tapping the Assistant button. You may also say, “Hey Google, show me the front door camera on my TV,” to your Nest speaker or smart screen.

To fully achieve feature parity between its new Nest cameras and its older Nest cameras, Google only has to fulfil its commitment to include a web portal option.
