Hacker presents 5.4mn Twitter account particulars for $30K

Hacker presents 5.4mn Twitter account particulars for $30K. According to a recent allegation, a hacker is selling the set of 5.4 million users’ account information for $30,000 after using a Twitter security flaw discovered in early 2022.

AppleInsider claims that 5.4 million users harmed by a compromise pale in comparison to the 478 million T-Mobile subscribers impacted in August 2021. It is even little when compared to the 70 million AT&T subscribers who were impacted later on in the same month.

However, according to Restore Privacy, the compromised information that is currently for sale stems from a vulnerability that was identified in January 2022.

The Twitter service confirmed this to be a real security issue and even gave the finder, “zhirinovskiy,” a $5,040 reward.

Sven Taylor of Restore Privacy stated that “just as the HackerOne user zhirinovskiy indicated in the first report in January, a threat actor is now purportedly selling the data obtained from this vulnerability.”

The purported sale of a Twitter database with 5.4 million members is still active, according to the post.

Taylor mentioned that in order to gather further data, they contacted the database’s provider.

The information, which is now available because of “Twitter’s stupidity,” is being sold for at least $30,000, according to the vendor.

On the location breach forums, the vendor has released information on the knowledge. The owner of the discussion board allegedly confirmed the veracity of the leak, according to Restore Privacy.

The posting on the Breach Forums contains a pattern of the information that is currently available. It appears to openly list contact information from Twitter profiles together with login phone numbers and/or email addresses.

It doesn’t appear to use passwords. It does contain email addresses that might potentially be utilized with Twitter’s “Forgot Password” feature, but a malicious actor would need to know the login password for each of those email accounts.

AppleInsider claims that a breach affecting 5.4 million users is little in comparison to the 478 million T-Mobile subscribers that were impacted in August 2021. Even smaller yet are the 70 million AT&T customers who were impacted later on in the same month.
