How to Use WhatsApp Communities

WhatsApp Communities- In WhatsApp, adding someone requires their phone number, and group chats can now include up to 1024 people instead of the previous limit of 256. But soon, thousands of users will be able to join a community that offers several sub-group chats thanks to a Communities tab that is rolling out to a small number of groups. Your mobile number will be concealed after you join a community (except from administrators and the people you are in a sub-group with).

An unpublished version of Communities, which Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called a “huge upgrade” for the messaging service, was initially discovered last year, but WhatsApp didn’t make the announcement until today.

Communities will emphasize feeds, according to Zuckerberg. “I think community chatting will take the normal protocols behind that messaging as well as extend them so you can interact more easily with groups of individuals to get things accomplished together,” he said. “In the same manner that social feeds did take the basic technology behind internet as well as made it to allow anyone to find people as well as online content.”

Note: Communities on WhatsApp are only available in a few countries, so they might not be accessible to you just yet.
In addition to the introduction group, a WhatsApp community can include up to 50 groups. To the community announcement group, you can invite up to 5,000 people.

How do Communities work in WhatsApp?

Little is known at this time because Pocket-lint hasn’t tested Communities and, frankly, WhatsApp is still working out the specifics of how Communities will operate based on comments from early testers. However, based on publications by WhatsApp and Zuckerberg concerning Communities, you may anticipate the following user experience:

Features

Meta said that with Communities, you can…

  • Bring diverse organizations under one roof.
  • Get community-wide updates delivered to you.
  • Simple to organize smaller discussion groups on topics that are important to you
  • Use strong administration tools, such as:
    • Everyone receives announcement messages
    • The ability to choose which organizations to include

Additionally, WhatsApp is introducing new features to better serve Communities, including emoji reactions, the option for group administrators to remove messages, 2GB file sharing, and 32-person calling.

Are WhatsApp Communities private?

Communities are “inherently private,” according to WhatsApp. Additionally, unlike Telegram, all communications within a Community are encrypted, despite the fact that the name and description of a Community are not.

When will WhatsApp Communities be available?

The ability to merge many group conversations “under one roof with a structure that works for them” is now available to all users globally thanks to WhatsApp Communities, according to a blog post announcing the feature. People may then simply organise smaller discussion groups to debate topics that are important to them and have updates communicated to the broader Community in this manner.

Facebook Communities: Are they coming?

Yes. Community features for Facebook and Messenger are being developed by Meta.
