Apple iOS 16.2: What’s new?

A new Freeform app is added to iOS as part of the update, serving as a smooth, flexible canvas for users to add photographs, files, and stickers to. Users can read and edit their files anywhere thanks to the Freeform app’s availability on Mac and iPad as well.

Another new feature, Apple Music Sing, allows users to sing along to their favourite tunes. Users can alter the voice on tracks in the new Apple Music mode so they can sing the song themselves, but there are also options to duet with the original artist or mix things up. Additionally, the function will use precisely timed lyrics that Apple refers to as “beat-by-beat” lyrics, making Karaoke easier than ever.

23 iCloud data types are now end-to-end encrypted on iOS thanks to Apple’s Advanced-Data Protection for iCloud support. In addition, iCloud backup, Notes, and Photos are now included. When Always-On Display is activated on the different iPhone 14 Pro models, users can now choose to hide their wallpaper or notifications from the Lock Screen. Users may now track their sleep statistics with a new sleep widget, and a medication widget provides users with timely reminders.

With the addition of SharePlay support in iOS 16.2, users can now play compatible multiplayer games with the individuals they are on a Facetime Video conversation with. This feature is available through Game Center. You can view the games your friends are playing using the Activity widget that goes along with it.

Live Activities are now available on the Apple TV app as well, allowing users to follow the results of their favourite games live from their Lock Screen or Dynamic Island. Only the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have access to the feature.

The update also enhances connectivity between your Apple devices and other smart home accessories. Users may now search for photographs in Messages by looking for the content within them, such as a dog, car, person, or just the text itself in a picture.

Users can now temporarily disable the iCloud Private Relay service for a certain website in Safari by using the Hide IP address setting while activating the feature for them.

Location-specific weather news stories are now displayed in the Weather app. Users may now see real-time participant cursors on the Notes app, which let them know where other users are on a shared note.

In order to prevent users from receiving inappropriate content from strangers, AirDrop now automatically switches back to “Contacts Only” mode after 10 minutes. With the iOS 16.2 update, more Crash Detection enhancements are also coming to the iPhone 14-series. Additionally, a problem with iCloud that prevented notes from synchronising has been resolved.
